Hi Mike and posters,
I just found this website and I am so happy to see that you're doing so well. I left CA in '90, now living in Holland, MI.
So what's wrong with America? There's so much to be said to that! To begin, I think the government will never solve our human problems until "it" understands the complex interconnections of all the different issues, including the plight of the individual, in a shallow, materialistic, image-oriented society.
When the churches cut us off from our own spiritual ("spirit-")nature, and no one calls them on it, then you know that something's wrong. It's a lack of enlightened ideas, which the government and the Powers That Suck are against.
Conseqently, there's little motivation or inspiration for people to explore inwardly--not even in basic reflection. It's not "cool." The "Group-mind" mindset is a big problem here. People are shallow as mud-puddles, and can't even handle being alone! We need to show them that there's nothing to be afraid of, just the very opposite. Then perhaps they would learn to be more thoughtful, more constructive, and less likely to be violent and thuggish.
Morality obviously cannot be imposed from outside us, through a set of rules (crimony!). People have to be taught how to perceive beyond their ego to that timeless joy inside themselves.
